On October 18, 2018 the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Army General S.K. Shoigu, paid an official visit to Ulaanbaatar to discuss with the military and political leadership of Mongolia prospects for the development of cooperation between the two countries in the military and military technical sphere.

The Minister of Defense of Russia was awarded a high state award of Mongolia - the Order of the Red Banner of War, which was presented by the Speaker of the Great State Khural (Parliament) M. Enkhbold. S.K.Shoigu was also received by the Prime Minister of Mongolia, U.Khurelsukh, and held talks with the Minister of Defense of Mongolia, N.Enkhbold.

“We appreciate that Mongolia regards the development of interaction with Russia as one of the most important foreign policy tasks. We reaffirm the desire to use as much as possible the accumulated potential for the deepening of military and military-technical cooperation”, said Russian Minister during meetings and negotiations. According to their results, a long-term program of cooperation between the ministries of defense of the two countries was signed. The program provides, in particular, the expansion of interaction during joint exercises and in the field of military education. Currently over 300 Mongolian military personnel are studying at universities under the Russian Ministry of Defense.

During the visit, a transfer from the Ministry of Defense of Russia to the Mongolian side of military products worth more than $ 13 million took place. This is “undoubtedly a landmark event in bilateral relations,” said S.K.Shoigu at the ceremony. "I am convinced that the means of ground aerodrome maintenance of general use will expand the capabilities of the Mongolian Armed Forces and, in particular, the national Air Force," said the Minister of Defense of Russia.
